Biking is an important recreational and professional sport in Costa Rica, it must because of the rugged terrains found, the countless paths and the savannahs that offer a great deal of opportunities for mountain and speed biking. Moreover, please don’t expect to find biking trails in the city; that’s why there are more appealing options for mountain and off.-track rides. Every year, the country hosts the “Vuelta Ciclística de Costa Rica” (Tour of Costa Rica) an important biking competition for younger cyclist who are aiming to become professional, and come from different countries in Latin America compete in different stages and cross the country from North to South. Also, as mountain biking becomes more popular, several competitions have gained and importance among Costa Rican enthusiasts such as the “Ruta de Los Conquistadores” (The Conquerors route) competition that goes off the beaten track with a medium to high level of difficulty, suitable for the adventurous ones.

If enjoy the outdoors, a biking tour is a great way to get up close with nature, to see the ways of life of the people in the small towns, and probably, have a good chance to meet the “ticos” (Costa Ricans) you will find along the way. Magnificent volcanoes, lush vegetation, incredible biodiversity, waterfalls, river crossings are just a few of the amazing things you will encounter in the different biking routes and trips.

Due to Costa Rica’s topography there are opportunities for bikers in every level, from beginners to experts and trips can be combined with other outdoor and adventure activities such as rafting, canopy tours, among many others.
