GOLFING
25
years ago there were fairly 2 or 3 golf courses all around the country. Nowadays,
the golf interest has increased considerably, and there are at least 10 important
golf courses, 6 of which are 18-hole, with an emerging boom in the area of
Guanacaste. Most of these newer golf courses have been designed by famous
golf architects like George Fazio and Robert Trent Jones II, among others.
So, what does Costa Rica has to offer to avid golfers? Besides very good
golfing courses, the best thing about golfing here is the added value of the
surroundings: its natural attractions which have been taken into account when
building the newer golf facilities. These golf courses have included the beauty
of the scenery, the tropical flowers, and the magical surroundings into the
development of the golf courses.
Make sure you are one of those lucky people who will discover this potential
golfing paradise, before many others do! The great thing is that we can help
you plan a vacation where both golfers and non-golfers will enjoy, there’s
a little bit of everything for everyone!

Costa Rica's Golf courses:

the only golf course in the country for 25 years. The Costa Rica Country Club

Many of their golf club members have won national and Central American tournaments.

the participants learn the basics of this sport. Holes: 09 / Par: -36

flowering gardens, it enjoys a distinctive Costa Rican tropical atmosphere.

by it’s nephew, Tom Fazio, it sets where there was once a coffee plantation
The court is covered with a lot of trees and vegetation, the fairways are
narrow and have some cross bunkers; besides, they are well protected by sand
traps. This court is a nature lovers’ paradise because of its tree population
and the surrounding flora and fauna, where the golfing experience turns to
be really pleasant. Among the services the club offers, we can mention that
it has a putting green equipped with a lighting system, and a pitching/chipping
facility. The Club also has a Driving Range, in which there is a practice
balls renting service. Holes: 18 / Par: 71 / Yardage: 6590 / Slope:

Ciudad Hacienda Los Reyes:
Located in La Guacima de Alajuela, in the Central Valley at a close distance
from the International Airport, this golf court is part of the private residential
area of Hacienda Los Reyes. There’s no need to be a member to play here.
Its facilities include driving range and putting green. It was constructed
by Fred Staples and inaugurated in 1976. Holes: 9 / Yardage: 2917 (gentlemen)

Paradisus Playa Conchal (Garra de León):
This championship course was originally conceived for the “resort player”.
Built as an “eco.-golf” facility it was designed to blend in harmony
with the surrounding landscape of Costa Rica. Besides offering great golf
with ocean views, they have created the perfect place for the learning of
the sport, for those interested on improving their game. Conchal’s learning
center offers players the opportunity of improving no matter their level or
ability. Classes can be either private or in groups, and are led by certified
PGA instructors. Robert Trent Jones said, after completing his work: ““This
is environmentally sensitive golf at its best”. Holes: 18 / Par:
71 / Golf architect: Robert Trent Jones II.
Rating/Sloper Length:

Rancho Las Colinas Golf & Country Club:
Situated in Playa Grande on the Northwest Pacific coast, this Ron Garl designed
course is a challenging but fair golf test. A round of golf here is a lot
of fun, especially the early part of the year when the winds of the Pacific
make each shot more exciting. Holes: 18 / Yardage: 6,721 / Architect:
Ron Garl
Hacienda Pinilla:
Is considered by many as one of the master pieces of its American architect,
Mike Young, well known for having designed some of the best courses in the
south of his country. Young, put an important emphasis on the details, a fundamental
to create a course where every hole was designed respecting the undulating
forms and shapes of the natural setting of Hacienda Pinilla. The course was
opened in February, 2001. Golfers at Pinilla will find different challenges
and rewards all the time. This is the longest course in the country. Holes:
18 / Par: 72 / Yardage: 7,300 / Golf architect: Mike Young.

Four Seasons Golf Club new!:
Set on the Papagayo Peninsula with cool, prevailing breezes, this Golf Course
boasts sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean on 14 of its 18 holes. It has wide,
undulating fairways with large and countered greens, providing a first and
challenging test of your golf finesse. This brand new Golf course was opened
in February 2004. Holes: 18 / Par: 72 / Yardage: 6,788 / Golf architect:
Arnold Palmer
Tango Mar:
Laid out over gently rolling grounds and across the cliffs above the ocean,
the resorts neatly groomed, 9-hole par 3 and 4 Executive Golf Course gives
you a great day's play in the tropical surroundings of palm trees and exotic
birds. On the website http://www.worldgolf.com, Landy Blank says, "Tango
Mar is a 150-acre private beachfront reserve located at Playa Quisales, Nicoya
Peninsula, Costa Rica. While I usually avoid recommending nine-hole golf courses,
Tango Mar is one of the exceptions. The course is perfect for tuning up the
most important and most neglected part of your game: the short game. Measuring
2000 yards, Tango Mar is not an easy course. This is a great spot for couples
who want to mix a romantic getaway with a little golf." Holes:
9 / Designed by: Carlos Chacón

3. In Central Pacific Coast:
Marriott Los Sueños:
The magnificent golf course at Los Sueños Marriott Resort, is now called
“La Iguana Golf Course” (The Iguana Golf Course) due to a huge
wood iguana that was crafted in a legendary ceibo tree, which, unfortunately,
after approximately 300 years of existence fell down in December 2001. This
circuit is considered an important natural challenge. The landscape includes
exotic plants, bananas and orchids. Here golfers must share their game with
a habitat of mischievous monkeys who have surprised some golfers. Holes:
18 / Par: 72 / Golf architect: Ted Robinson
