Tortuguero is a dreamland for nature lovers, often referred to as the “Amazon of Costa Rica”, and this trip lets you enjoy with style. A boat ride along the canals takes you to your Lodge, the only in the area with air conditioning and SPA services, as well as a la carte menu at the restaurant. We combine this trip with a stay at the romantic Peace Lodge and Waterfall Gardens, a place truly worth seeing.

 

 

Day 01:Upon arrival to Juan Santamaria’s International Airport in Costa Rica, and after clearing customs and immigrations, our bilingual representative will be waiting to welcome you to our country, and drive you to Hotel Alta, a boutique style hotel located in the suburbs of San Jose, in the blooming town of Santa Ana.  In a relaxed atmosphere of understated elegance, guests at Alta are pampered with personalized service and have the opportunity to enjoy the striking glass-tiled pool with its Jacuzzi and the adjacent amenity spa and exercise room. Inside, is the sauna and massage service is available upon request.

Day 02: Today, we offer you the possibility of choosing the day tour that best suits your interests, between the following options, Pacuare River Rafting: This thrilling adventure will take you to one of Costa Rica’s most scenic rivers, the Pacuare, while paddling on some of the most rapid and intrepid rapids in the country. Tortuga Island Cruise: The trip starts with a ride from San Jose to Puntarenas, where you board the Manta Raya Catamaran Cruise, that will take you to the palm studded white sand beach of Tortuga Island. A gourmet lunch will be served at the beach and will have some time to enjoy the Island before heading back to San Jose. Day tour to San Antonio de Escazu: if looking for a day trip that connects you with the local customs and traditions of a folkloric town, this day trip will take you to experience it hands on! Canopy Tour: This zip line canopy tour is an fun, adrenaline-filled experience. Enjoy the treetops from a bird’s eye view, while sliding from one cable to another, where you will also admire the Tropical Forests of Costa Rica.

Day 03: Early this morning, depart from San Jose on a guided group tour and transportation service to Tortuguero. Along the way, you will pass by the scenic Braulio Carrillo National Park, a virgin rainforest that offers impressive views of the mountains and the fauna present. A stop will be made for breakfast in Guapiles and will then continue to the pier in Caño Blanco to board the boat to Tortuguero. This 1 ½ ride up the canals will provide a marvelous opportunity to witness the ever present wildlife, flora and fauna. Upon arrival to Manatus Lodge at lunch time, check into your comfortable room, enjoy lunch and get ready for an afternoon visit to the small village of Tortuguero.

Tortuguero – a name that could be translated as “Region of Turtles” is located in the Northeast area of the Caribbean coast of the country, often called the “Amazon of Costa Rica” because of its network of lakes and canals with rich vegetation, flora and fauna. A must see for the nature lovers and birdwatchers!

Land of incredible biological diversity; where at night, from July to September, impressive Green Sea Turtles nest on the beach. A tropical sanctuary for more than 300 different species of birds and natural habitat for an amazing array of wildlife; such as monkeys, crocodiles and iguanas, among many others. Discover the lush vegetation that abounds in the midst of the Rainforest.

Day 04: Today, your tour guide will take you on a trip to the backwaters canals, on smaller boats, that provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy nature, admire wildlife and witness the amazing flora present in the area of Tortuguero. Your accommodations at Manatus are the finest in the area, including air conditioned rooms, private terrace, cable TV, mini bar, king size bed and a private solarium with outdoors shower. During your stay at Manatus, you will also receive, as a bonus, a relaxing massage at their SPA or a canopy tour (whichever you prefer). Because of the remoteness of Tortuguero, all meals are served at the Lodge’s restaurant, on a “A la carte” menu, a signature feature of this lodge. During July to September an optional (And extra cost) night tour is available to observe the arrival of the Green Sea Turtle.

Day 05: Early morning today, say farewell to your Tortuguero group as you are taken on a boat transfer to the nearby airstrip for the local domestic 50 minute flight back to San Jose. Upon your arrival in the city, your private bilingual guide will be waiting to take you to Poas Volcano. Poás Volcano is one of the largest geysers in the world, with an awesome crater of over 1.5 km. wide! It is now active but completely safe for viewing. After a tour here, you will be dropped of at the tasteful Peace Lodge Waterfall Gardens.

Day 06: The day is yours to enjoy Peace Lodge. Located 25 minutes away from the Poás Volcano, La Paz Waterfalls (Peace Lodge) is a unique resort, where the use of naturally shaped wood beams and hand laid hardwood flooring along with river stone and slate were combined to render an atmosphere that encompasses the rustic past and natural beauty of the rainforest. Each and every room boasts a Jacuzzi tub and stone fireplace along with showers that transform into waterfalls with the turn of a knob. The handcrafted canopy beds and love seats represented an important artwork by local craftsmen. The oversized balconies provide enjoyment of the cool mountain weather and views of the Poas Volcano, while providing an opportunity to relax in the custom made Jacuzzi tub. The experience continues with the guests’ choice of aromatherapy products and their selection of fine quality linens and robes. Our room selection for you is the DELUXE room.

Day 07: Late morning, your private driver / guide will pick you up at Peace Lodge for the return drive to the city and your overnight at Hotel Alta in Santa Ana.

Day 08: After spending some precious days in Costa Rica, it’s time to go back home and start a new life together! Our bilingual representative will meet you at the hotel approximately 3 ½ hours prior to your International plane departure time in order to take you to the International Airport. Airport regulations indicate that traveling passengers must check in 3 hours prior to departure. Remember that you must pay a $ 26.00 USD per person departure tax at the airport.

*Notes: All domestic flights within Costa Rica limit luggage to a maximum of 30 lb per person. This program originally featured two nights in Arenal Volcano and excluded the second day in San Jose, for a total of 9 days / 8 nights. Moreover, after the earthquake that hit the area of Peace Lodge in January, 2009 the road between Peace Lodge and Arenal has remained closed and will reportedly remain this way until mid 2010. In the meantime we have slightly modified this package. The moment the road is open again, we will be able to offer this version of the program as well as the other version including Arenal Volcano
