"Jungle Adventure"
A
biking, rafting and kayaking combination that visits the Caribbean coast of
the country. This trip will take you biking along the countryside of Costa
Rica, rafting on one of Costa Rica’s most scenic rivers, the Pacuare,
where you will even spend the night at a lodge on the river banks and will
finish with a trip to the Tortuguero Canals, often compared to as the “Amazon
of Costa Rica”, where you will discover it’s backwater canals
on gentle kayak trip.
Previous biking and rafting experience is required and recommended. Kayaking
experience not required.
Day 01: Arrival to San José’s Juan Santamaria International
Airport. After clearing customs and immigrations our bilingual representative
will be waiting in order to take you to your hotel in San Jose. Overnight
at Hotel Grano de Oro, a jewel in the middle of the
city. The hotel’s charm and coziness is the perfect start for this trip.
Their International Restaurant is one of the best in town.
Day 02: This morning, around 7:30 am leave the hotel heading towards
the city of Costa Rica, Costa Rica’s first capital and an important
landmark to the country. A breakfast stop will be made in a small town called
Cervantes and continues to “Angostura” an hydroelectric plant
where the biking adventure begins. Bike through sugar and coffee plantations
on a flat route with a mountain segment of dense jungle and uphills and nice
river views. Tour passes by the town of Pejibaye and continues on dirt road
to “La Posa” a natural river pool formed in the Pejibaye River,
where you will have a chance to get in and refresh; then, its back to the
dirt road to finish the tour, and for lunch at a folkloric local restaurant,
after which, you will be dropped at the quaint Casa Turire
Hotel in Turrialba, a place that recalls the gracious charm of a colonial
plantation home. (BL)
Note: A support van is available at all times, with a cooler full with water
to refill bottles when needed, along with tropical fruits, candies and a mix
of nuts. Helmets are provided (we recommend you bring your own gloves for
hygiene reasons)

Day 03: Today we will go on a horseback riding trip along the sugar
cane, cofffe and macadamia plantations, and up to the secondary and primary
forest, where you can appreciate the AGOSTURA Lake. This morning, 03 hour
trip will help you appreciate the beauty of Costa Rica’s pasture lands
and the countryside. Rest of the day is free to enjoy Casa Turire’s
attractions, including beautifully landscaped gardens, canoe or kayak trips,
or simply relax admiring the natural beauty and colonial charm of the hotel.

Day 04: Today we say farewell to the town of Turrialba, and begin
an exciting rafting adventure on the Pacuare River, a class III-IV river rapid
escapade. You will be picked up at the hotel and taken to the put in point
of the river, where space and time seem to stand still as you enter the depths
of the Pacuare Protected Zone. As you submerge into this tropical forest,
you are acutely aware that this is a place the modern world has seemingly
passed by. The exuberance of the flora and fauna stagger your senses and urge
you on to discover more of this hidden wonder that is the Pacuare River. After
experiencing a thrilling adventure, we will arrive to the Pacuare Lodge situated
stratigecally in the banks of the river. The guest bungalows and lodge seem
as much a part of this rainforest setting as do the jungle’s fauna,
frequently seen scampering within the jungle undergrowth or ascending through
the rainforest canopy. (BLD)
Day 05: After an evening in the middle of the jungle, get ready to
continue your rafting adventure! We’ll start of the Pacuare Lodge, down
the Pacuare River, and experience some of the most thrilling river rapids
in Costa Rica. Arrive to the put out point, change clothes and return to Guapiles,
where you will overnight at the Hotel Suerre in order to continue to Tortuguero
the next morning (BL)
Day 06: At approximately 9:00 am the Tortuguero’s bus and guide
will pick you up at the hotel and continue to the town of Matina, in the lowlands
of the Caribbean. Once here, and after being given some time to taste local
fruits and fresh water, board the boat for the ride along the Tortuguero Canals,
to Tortuguero National Park. Along the way, view some of the impressive wildlife,
including crocodiles and caimans, toucans and parrots, bats and birds along
with other endemic species. Arrive to the Mawamba Lodge
on time for Lunch. In the afternoon, join the rest of the group on a visit
to the small village of Tortuguero, were approximate 800 families live in
a very simple way. Can you imagine that someone who has lived all his life
in Tortuguero and never been out, has not yet seen a car? (remember there
are no roads to get you to Tortuguero!). (BLD)
Day 07: Your guide will take you to explore the Park on small boats,
specially designed to observe the flora & Fauna present at Tortuguero.
In the early morning, a boat tour is available to enjoy nature at rising,
and will return to lodge for breakfast. At mid morning, a guided walk to the
Tortuguero Hill will introduce you to the fauna of the area. Return to Lodge
for lunch and another afternoon boat tour will take you on to continue exploring
the beauties of Tortuguero. Later this afternoon, we will take the kayaks
for a trip in the tranquil waters of the Tortuguero Canals. Overnight at Mawamba
Lodge. Meals:B,L,D
Day 08: After breakfast today, board the boats for the return ride
to the town of Matina. Here, a bus will e waiting in order to bring you back
to the city of San Jose. A stop for lunch will be made along the way in the
town of Guapiles. Late afternoon arrival to your San Jose’s Grano de
Oro Hotel (B)
Day 09: After spending some precious days in Costa Rica, it’s
time to go back home. Our bilingual representative will meet you at the hotel
approximately 3 ½ hours prior to your International plane departure
time in order to take you to the International Airport. Airport regulations
indicate that traveling passengers must check in 3 hours prior to departure.
Remember that you must pay a $ 26.00 USD per person departure tax at the airport.
