If looking for adventure in Costa Rica, Rincon de la Vieja National Park is probably one of your best bets. Located north of Liberia in the Guanacaste province, this secluded and peaceful area boosts adventure and energy. Surrounded by waterfalls, raging river and endless forests, the area’s main attraction is the gigantic active volcano, though; explorers also enjoy the sulfuric lagoons, boiling mud pits and the thermal waters.

Inside the National Park, there are excellent trails for hikers. More energetic hikers can go up to the summit and explore the amazing craters and lakes. On a clear day, you will be able to see the plains of Guanacaste and the Pacific Ocean below. Visitors highlights included Las Pailas trails and La Cangreja Waterfall. Your visit can be rewarded with a fun and relaxing bathe in the thermal pools; don’t miss the opportunity of taking a mud bath, known for its healing properties and don’t forget to bring the camera!

Most of the activities here include horseback riding & hiking, but there are also ATV tours available; Canopy tours, river tubing, trips to the waterfalls, among others.

All visitors to Rincon de la Vieja, must pay the park’s entrance fee of $ 7.00 USD per person (As of October, 2006).
