LCI Congress 2017: How to Keep Project Housing Lean

Last week, the Travelers Haven and Hotel Engine team attended the Lean Construction Institute Annual Congress in Anaheim, California. This five-day event brought together the industry’s innovators to share their successful projects and tips to improve project design and building performance. Our team was thrilled to show how Travelers Haven and Hotel Engine can directly help these lean construction services by lowering lodging costs and workloads. We look forward to helping everyone we met to create and sustain lean construction practices!

Here are a few of our team’s takeaways from the 2017 LCI Congress:

Lean construction is on the rise.

The event’s theme was all about open communication, modern technology, and agile workflows. Today, the idea of lean construction is a quickly growing trend in the U.S. construction industry. Specifically, it’s spreading throughout the southeastern region, where construction season lasts longer due to warmer temperatures. It’s projected that lean construction will continue to grow as baby boomers retire and more millennials move into leadership positions.

Wholesale hotel rates benefit companies of all sizes.

Much of lean construction focuses on the elimination of waste. Hotel Engine’s ability to reduce the workload and costs around short-term project housing matched the needs of those needing to stretch their budget and bandwidth further. Our hotel booking platform saves users an average of 26% off public rates. As the lean construction industry knows, every opportunity to save adds up.

Especially relevant, our team met consultants, lawyers, and sales representatives that simply liked the idea of a saving more on their hotel stays. Large companies were attracted to the idea of forgoing a stipend program in favor of using an online management platform to better monitor and streamline their housing needs. Small and medium-sized businesses also liked the solution for outsourcing their hotel management to an online platform instead of dedicating project coordinators and administrators to the time-consuming process.

We can make longer-term projects leaner.

Travelers Haven works best at eliminating the time and effort construction companies spend searching for housing and managing leases for larger projects. For example, our temporary housing options come at an average of 34% lower than our competitors. Specifically, we have rates as low as $17 per person per night with quadruple occupancy. That includes both rural and urban locations all across the country.

We see our clients better excel at lean construction because their internal teams can spend more of their time and resources on tasks directly related to projects instead of housing. And with our online management tools and streamlined billing, we also help create internal efficiencies for their accounting teams. It’s a win-win.
